A woman who has been a bridesmaid nine times saved all of her dresses and transformed them into special gifts for her bridesmaids at her wedding.

When it was finally Tarry Boyd’s turn to get married, she knew she wanted to make her bridal party experience extra special. After finding the nine bridesmaid dresses she had worn at friends' weddings between January 2018 and May 2022, she had an idea.

“I’m not usually a creative person, but I knew I wanted to gift the girls something unique, practical and personal,” Boyd tells PEOPLE.

Until she moved in 2023, Boyd “truly just forgot about” her bridesmaid dresses. When she stumbled upon her collection in the back of her closet while packing, she got the idea to repurpose them into purses.

It took the designer roughly 24 hours to make each bag, which were in shades of green, purple and blue.

“I really let her take charge on the designs,” Boyd explains. “I provided a couple of inspiration photos and then let her work her magic!”

Her eight bridesmaids were clueless about the custom surprise.

“We had no idea she was turning the dresses into purses,” Carly tells PEOPLE. “We actually asked her to bring all of the dresses on the bachelorette so we could have a fashion show and she had to tell a little white lie that she ‘threw them all away.’ We were thinking that was odd but none of us suspected she had her own plan for the dresses up her sleeve.”

Boyd was previously a bridesmaid for six out of her eight bridesmaids. Her two unmarried bridesmaids were gifted purses made from dresses from other weddings she was a bridesmaid for.

“They were conversation pieces throughout the day, and we loved sharing the story!” she adds.
