A Wyoming State Trooper was dispatched to a crash involving his own family.

State Trooper Parker Smith responded to a call of a vehicle crash that had seriously injured a small child on Wednesday, Feb. 12, only to discover upon arrival that the crash involved his own family’s minivan, carrying his wife and two sons.

“Little Christian has a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, jaw and skull, as well as a multitude of other serious injuries,” the page read. “He is currently on a ventilator. The care he requires is intensive and ongoing.”

A week later, on Wednesday, Feb. 19, Parker shared an update on his youngest son’s condition. He has not moved his left arm or leg due to a stroke on the right side of his brain, and his jaw is broken in three places.

Christian’s doctors also discussed the possible need for a high-risk surgery; he’s been experiencing seizures, ultimately keeping him in the PICU.

However, Parker wrote, Christian “seems to be taking steps in the correct direction” and is now breathing on his own.

“My boy today did say a few words and that was just the biggest high since the crash," Parker wrote. “He said, ‘I love you,’ to his mom.”

Parker also shared that his family has been able to stay at the Ronald McDonald House close to the hospital.
